Stackless

WooCommerce Checkout Plugin With Layouts and Order Bumps

Stackless is a WooCommerce checkout plugin with 5 layouts, order bumps, paid fields and popup checkout on block and classic checkouts, for $99 once.

I get why so many store owners go looking for a WooCommerce checkout plugin. The default checkout looks the way your theme draws it, and changing it usually means custom CSS or another yearly bill. Then you add a field editor and an order bump plugin, and each one renews on its own.

My advice is simple. If you want better layouts, a few offers and some extra fields, I'd use one plugin for all of it and pay once. I built Stackless for that job, so weigh my view with that in mind.

Stackless for WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin from Gatilab with 43 optional modules, and each one has its own switch. It costs $99 once or $39 a year for unlimited sites at launch prices, which rise to $399 and $69 when the deal ends.

If you're still comparing plugins, my guide to the best WooCommerce checkout plugins covers the others, including where they beat Stackless. This page explains what the Stackless checkout tools do and where they stop.

What Stackless Changes on the Checkout

These modules do the checkout work. WooCommerce still handles the fields, shipping, taxes and payments underneath, so nothing changes until you switch a module on.

Checkout Layouts

Checkout Builder gives you 5 ready-made layouts, and you can go back to the WooCommerce default at any time:

  • Classic: customer details on the left and the order summary on the right.
  • Split: the order summary first on the left and the form on the right.
  • Warm Split: a warm order panel beside a spacious white checkout, with a bold purchase button.
  • Focused: a centered single column with the order summary above the form.
  • Review First: a full-width order review, then customer details beside payment.
Stackless Checkout Builder settings with a gallery of checkout layouts and previews

The With my cart preview is the part I'd use first. It opens your real checkout with that layout applied, only for you, and your customers keep seeing the live checkout while you compare.

These settings apply to every layout:

Any color

Content width

You don't pick the text colors. Stackless chooses near-black or white for each background, whichever has more contrast. You can also replace your theme's header and footer on the checkout page with a compact header showing your logo and a Return to cart link.

Order Bumps

An order bump is a one-click offer on the checkout page, such as a guide added to a course purchase. In Stackless, each bump is a checkbox with a headline, a price and an optional image. Ticking it adds the product to the order at the bump price.

  • Cart rules: a bump shows only when the cart matches the rules you set, such as a subtotal range.
  • Pricing: the price is worked out on the server, so a shopper can't change it in the browser.
  • Stock: a bump for an out-of-stock product stays hidden until the product is available again.
  • Numbers: the list shows times shown, times accepted, take rate and revenue for each bump.

Stackless doesn't run A/B tests on bumps. You can compare take rates between offers yourself, but a store that wants traffic split automatically should look at CheckoutWC.

Custom Checkout Fields and Fees

Fields & Paid Add-ons lets you collect order details or charge for an extra, without code. Each checkout field can be a checkbox, a dropdown or text.

  • Fees: a priced field adds 1 fee per order when it is ticked or filled in, and you can mark it as taxable.
  • Conditions: a field can show only when another field above it has a certain value.
  • Example: a gift wrapping checkbox priced at 5.00, with a gift message field that shows only when the box is ticked.
  • Limits: up to 30 checkout fields, and up to 50 choices per dropdown.

These fields appear in one place. The Checkout block shows them under "Additional order information", and the classic checkout shows them in a section after the order notes. So this module adds fields but it won't move your address fields around, and Checkout Builder doesn't either.

Popup and On-Page Checkout

These two modules shorten the path to payment, and they suit sales pages well. Both show your real checkout, in your active Checkout Builder layout.

On-page Checkout puts plan cards and the checkout on any page through a block or the [stackless_checkout] shortcode. Each plan gets its own cart, so the store cart is left alone. Subscription plans show their price, trial and signup fee, and a yearly plan gets a "Save N%" badge when it beats a monthly plan in the same block.

Modal Checkout opens the checkout over the current page. You add the stackless-modal-checkout class to a button or link, or you can set every Add to cart and Buy now button to open it.

Each button can also limit its payment methods with a class such as pay-via-stripe_gateway, and the server enforces that limit. After Place order, the whole page moves to the receipt or payment page, and hosted payment pages open in the full window.

Consents, Wording and Shorter Checkouts

Checkout Enhancements handles the small changes that otherwise need snippets, and it is included in the free Lite edition:

  • Consent checkboxes: these store proof on each order, and removing a consent later doesn't touch old orders.
  • Shorter free and digital checkouts: company, country and state can drop away when nothing ships and nothing is charged.
  • Your own wording: rename fields, headings and the Place order button.
  • Trust block: add a payment methods image and a short note under the payment methods.

One limit is worth knowing. On the Checkout block, links inside consent wording show as plain text, because WooCommerce's checkbox label is plain text.

Block and Classic Checkout Support

All 5 layouts and these modules work on both the Checkout block and the classic checkout. The layout CSS and JavaScript load on the checkout page only, so your other pages don't carry that code.

There is one exception outside the checkout. Product add-on fields and the Buy now button need the classic add-to-cart form on the product page. If you use WooCommerce's newer Add to Cart with Options block, those two won't show.

What Stackless Doesn't Do

I'd rather you know this before you buy. Stackless is the wrong pick today if you depend on any of these:

  • abandoned cart emails
  • A/B testing
  • a side cart with a free shipping bar
  • thank-you page upsells
  • full sales funnels with upsell pages
  • a multi-step checkout layout
  • address autocomplete and validation, which are marked Coming soon

It is also a newer product, at version 1.8.0. CheckoutWC, for example, says more than 6,600 stores use it, so it has a much longer track record. My CheckoutWC vs Stackless comparison goes through the differences row by row.

How Much It Costs Compared With Other Checkout Plugins

The checkout tools are only part of the license. The same $99 also covers subscriptions, software licensing, multi-currency, invoices and 5 payment gateways.

Competitor prices come from their own pricing pages on November 2, 2026. Stackless prices are launch prices. I'd also look at what your add-ons cost together, and my post on what WooCommerce extensions cost each year has that math.

How to Try It

I'd start without touching your live store:

  1. Open the Stackless demo store and go through a checkout.
  2. Buy Stackless for WooCommerce, and install it on a staging site.
  3. Switch on Checkout Builder and preview each layout with your real cart.
  4. Place a test order with each payment method.
  5. Choose a layout and save it on your live store.

To go back, you can choose WooCommerce default and save. The 14-day unconditional refund covers you if it doesn't fit your store.

FAQs on the Stackless Checkout Tools

Does Stackless replace CheckoutWC?

It replaces the layouts, order bumps, custom fields and one-page checkout. It doesn't replace abandoned cart emails, A/B testing, the side cart or thank-you page upsells, so a store that depends on those should stay on CheckoutWC.

What happens to my checkout if the license lapses?

Every module keeps working, and only updates and support stop. Your layout stays on.

Do I need to move any data to switch?

No. WooCommerce keeps handling the fields, shipping, taxes and payments, so a layout change doesn't move any data. Custom fields from another plugin would need to be set up again in Stackless.

Final Remarks

If you're still unsure, I'd list the checkout plugins and add-ons you pay for today and cross off the ones Stackless covers. If only 1 or 2 are left and none of them is cart recovery, I'd make the switch on a staging site and compare the layouts with your own cart.
