Easy Digital Downloads Pricing
Easy Digital Downloads is free, with passes from $199 to $999 a year. What each pass includes, what renewals cost and how the 3% Stripe fee works.
Easy Digital Downloads pricing looks simple until you try to match a feature to a pass. The plugin is free, but free stores pay a 3% fee on Stripe sales, and the feature you came for can sit 2 tiers up. So a store can end up renewing at $599 a year just to sell license keys.
I'd start with the one job your store needs and buy the lowest option that covers it. For one-time sales, that can be the free plugin. For subscriptions or license keys, I'd compare a pass with Stackless, and for a vendor marketplace I'd buy the Professional pass.
Stackless for EDD is a plugin I lead at Gatilab. It adds subscriptions, software licensing, multi-currency and other store tools to the free Easy Digital Downloads plugin, so weigh my view with that in mind.
Quick Comparisons
These prices come from the Easy Digital Downloads pricing page on November 2, 2026. The first year is half price, and every renewal is at full price.
| Plan | First year | Renewal | Sites | Main additions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | Free | None | Not limited | Cart, checkout, Stripe, PayPal and Square |
| Personal | $99.50 | $199 | 1 | Subscriptions, multi-currency and abandoned cart emails |
| Extended | $199.50 | $399 | 1 | No 3% fee, content restriction, reviews and Amazon S3 |
| Professional | $299.50 | $599 | 2 | Software licensing, checkout fields, wish lists and marketplace tools |
| All Access | $499.50 | $999 | 3 | Advanced reports and fraud tools |
What the Free Plugin Includes
The free plugin is a full store for digital products. It has 40,000+ active installs on WordPress.org, and you get these without paying:
- Products: unlimited products and transactions.
- Buying: a cart and checkout, with discount codes.
- Payments: Stripe, PayPal and Square.
- Running the store: customer records, reports and file delivery.
The cost shows up when you take a payment, so the fee below is the number to check first.
The 3% Stripe Fee
EDD's Stripe docs say the integration adds a 3% application fee unless an Extended pass or higher is active. This fee sits on top of what Stripe charges you.
- Who pays it on Stripe: stores on Lite and the Personal pass.
- PayPal: the fee also applies to Lite stores using PayPal.
- Renewals: the fee applies to renewal orders as well.
- Expired licenses: the fee comes back if your Extended license expires.
Here is an example with made-up numbers. A store taking $1,000 a month through Stripe pays $30 a month in this fee, which is $360 a year.
Moving from Personal to Extended costs $200 more at renewal. So Extended pays for itself once your Stripe sales pass about $6,667 a year, before you count anything else it adds.
There is a free way around this for one-time sales. Stackless Lite for EDD includes its own Stripe and PayPal gateways with no Stackless fee, so you pay only your normal Stripe or PayPal rates.
What Each Pass Adds
Each pass includes everything in the one below it. These are the additions that change most buying decisions.
Personal
Personal is $199 a year for 1 site, and it is the first plan with subscriptions.
- Subscriptions: recurring payments, free trials and a variable pricing switcher.
- Multi-currency: prices in more than one currency.
- Abandoned cart recovery: recovery emails to buyers who leave checkout.
- Marketing: ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, ConvertKit and MailPoet, along with cross-sells and upsells.
- The catch: the 3% Stripe fee still applies.
Extended
Extended is $399 a year for 1 site. For a store with steady Stripe sales, I think this is the first pass that makes sense.
- No 3% fee: Stripe Pro and PayPal Commerce Pro are included.
- Selling options: content restriction, custom prices and All Access memberships.
- File storage: Amazon S3 and Dropbox.
- Other tools: reviews, Zapier, Authorize.net and 2Checkout.
Professional
Professional is $599 a year for 2 sites. Plugin and theme sellers usually end up here, because Software Licensing starts at this tier.
- Software licensing: license keys with activation limits and upgrades.
- Marketplace tools: Frontend Submissions and Commissions.
- Checkout and catalog: Checkout Fields Manager, Wish Lists and Simple Shipping.
- Support: premium support starts here.
All Access
All Access is $999 a year for 3 sites. It adds advanced reports, Fraud Monitor, MaxMind fraud prevention and a discount code generator. I'd only pay for it when one of those tools solves a problem you have today.
What a Pass Costs Over 3 Years
The half-price first year makes these plans look cheaper than they are. This table shows the same store on each plan for 3 years.
| Plan | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | $99.50 | $199 | $199 | $497.50 |
| Extended | $199.50 | $399 | $399 | $997.50 |
| Professional | $299.50 | $599 | $599 | $1,497.50 |
| All Access | $499.50 | $999 | $999 | $2,497.50 |
If you cancel, EDD says you lose support and updates and give up your existing pricing. A store with more than 3 sites has also outgrown every pass, because each one has a fixed site limit.
Which Pass Do You Need?
The cheapest pass depends on one job, so I'd read this table by the job you need done. The last column shows the same job in Stackless, which costs the same for all of them.
| Job | Cheapest pass | Renewal | Stackless for EDD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recurring billing | Personal | $199 | Subscriptions |
| Multi-currency | Personal | $199 | Multi-Currency Checkout |
| Abandoned cart emails | Personal | $199 | Not offered |
| Stripe without the 3% fee | Extended | $399 | Stripe, in free Lite |
| Buyer-only pages | Extended | $399 | Page Access |
| Name your price | Extended | $399 | Pay What You Like, in free Lite |
| Reviews and Amazon S3 | Extended | $399 | Not offered |
| License keys | Professional | $599 | Software Licensing |
| Checkout fields | Professional | $599 | Fields & Paid Add-ons |
| Wish lists | Professional | $599 | Wishlist, in free Lite |
| Vendor marketplace | Professional | $599 | Not offered |
A Cheaper Route for Most Stores
Stackless for EDD runs on the free Easy Digital Downloads plugin and has 40 modules, each with its own switch. It costs $99 once or $39 a year for unlimited sites at launch prices, which rise to $399 and $69 when the deal ends.
The price gap is largest for license keys. Professional comes to $1,497.50 over 3 years for 2 sites, and the $99 license covers that job on every site you run. If a license ends, every module keeps working and only updates and support stop.
Stackless is the wrong pick in these cases, so please check them first:
- Subscribers already on Recurring Payments: Stackless has no importer, so moving live subscribers isn't simple.
- Marketplaces: it has no Frontend Submissions or vendor payouts.
- Lost carts: it has no abandoned cart emails.
- Other gaps: it has no reviews, Amazon S3 or Dropbox delivery, and no Square, Authorize.net or 2Checkout gateway.
- Track record: it is at version 1.3.0, and Easy Digital Downloads has a much longer history.
My EDD Passes vs Stackless comparison goes through the differences row by row. You can also go through a checkout on the Stackless for EDD demo store first.

Final Remarks
If you're still unsure, I'd write down the 1 or 2 features your store can't run without and find them in the job table. If they sit at Extended or Professional and aren't marketplace tools, I'd try Stackless for EDD on a staging site, because the 14-day refund covers you if it doesn't fit.
